Every year in England around 36,000 teenagers become pregnant. Britain has the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in Western Europe.
The Teenage Pregnancy Strategy was launched by the government in 1999 following a report by the Social Exclusion Unit.

Reducing teenage pregnancy continues to be regarded as a high priority by government.
